lol, Dubstep 8-bit.... (Talk about unexpectancy) I don't expect to drop the bass while I am playing video games! lol So, let me just say AMAZING! I don like you you try to keep the song from getting repetitive, which it shouldn't, and it isn't. at least in my books... ( that might just be due to the dubstep though) The song loops well, which is good, however as far as I am aware, MAC13 was for a song and such. still though, great song. (I really enjoyed it!)

YouriX responds:

Yeah i dont like making my songs repetitive and such. I want to keep the listener guessing. Wich to me is very important for a good song.

By the way!

Thank you for the lovely review ;)

P.S

I dont think it would be a problem it being a loop. It seem to very fitting for it to loop. If its going to be used in a game.

Interesting tune you got going on here. For those of you who have issues with repetivity, what this guy did from 00:30 to 00:32 is a great way to do get away with a repetitive track! So kudos to you on that Island-of-Insight. Another break at around 50 seconds in! I am impressed. You are quite good at doing breaks and such, however IMO I would have loved to hear some more variety. So, not just breaks.
Overall, fantastic work.

I would like to point out to you though, that the requested song length was about 2 - 3 minutes and this doesn't quite cut that point. Another thing I found, is you made this a loop, which in a way is ok, but when it comes to animations and movies, a coda would be nice. Anyways, I enjoyed your song, have a nice day!

Island-of-Insight responds:

Nice review, however in regards to it being repetitive; I'd like to point out that the song is only 53 seconds long. I looped it once to show that a good loop doesn't sound the same twice. Admittedly a fade in intro or outro would make for a better animation but I'm not sure newgrounds supports that sort of looping.

0 votes still? What's wrong with people? lol
(Oh wait, you haven't been scouted, well that's gotta change!)

I like the build up on this song! Very addicting tune!
This song makes me think of Earthbound!

I honestly like how this song is built, however you seem to be having the same problem a lot of artists get... REPETITION. Its alright, the song is catchy, and a very nice listen. But for future reference, try to avoid that repetition of the same chord progression, for instance add some breaks, and a bridge. Add a completely new addition to the song. Seriously, don't be afraid to do something different. (That's what people like to hear, VARIETY)

Jonur responds:

Love your review! It's down to point and serious. And thanks for the scout mate!

I also agree with you. I guess it's too late to change the song for the MAC13-contest, but I should probably rework it a later session! You should check out some of my other songs, which are a lot more worked through.

Btw nice profile you have. I like your art, I'll go and review and rate some of it now. :)

Lol

I started bobbing my head, then I looked at your avatar!

lol, on a serious note, the song is built quite well, and while I can hear some tension in some parts, I do notice there is no build up to that tension, or really anything in relation to that. However, IMO this song is a great listen.

E-lie responds:

Thank you for listening! I wish I could edit it more, I just rushed it out because I was eager and nervous for the contest, but ah well what can you do. Thanks for the critique.

K, first thing I noticed. This song is really repetitive... And I cannot stress it enough, repetivity is huge when it comes to video game music. However, the tune is quite catchy, and I do like your mix between the 8-bit synth and the bass/drums. And even though the tune is a bit repetitive, I can see this being used in a video game. So, overall I think you did quite well, however I feel you should move a bit more away from that repeating melody.

PhoenixUL responds:

That was kind of the point of this tune though. It wasn't a verse/chorus concept, but more just a jam that builds and builds. it's really a song to just vibe to.

This is quite good! The tune is catchy, and a fun tune to listen to. However if I were to make a suggestion... the drums seem to be a tad harsh about 2 minutes in, in comparison to the melodies, harmonies, and bass. I do have to say that your bridge about 3 minutes in, is quite good. Overall this is a fantastic piece! Keep up the good work!

Sounds Epic!

Sounds more like video game music then WWE music... lol
Kinda repetitive though... I mean no bridge even? Oh well, the repetitive tune is still catchy! XP

Why didn't you just make it a small 20-30 second loop? (That being an estimate on the time per loop.)

ThePal responds:

You're totally right, it's repetitive as hell. But the original is constructed EXACTLY like this, so that's what I went for. \o/

Let me add a looping version as well. :)

Chords instantly made me think of 'The Legend of Zelda" ... multiple times in this song. I am sure it was unintentional, but hard to avoid with certain chords.

Overall, really entertaining piece! Great work!

WingoWinston responds:

I never actually heard that. When I listened to it again after reading this though, I suppose I could hear the chords from Geurdo Valley. But yes, unintentional. You could probably tack the same review on zelda songs saying they sound like this or that as well. As is a common theme through a lot of songs.

If I get another review saying the same thing... then I know I must have had zelda on the mind :P

Cheers!

Dat Arpeggio!!!! Tons of fun to write in Finale I bet! XP

This song is catchy and enjoyable to listen. Not much I can say against this song, except repetition of a progression is really noticeable, so I'd work on that. The loop is ok, so overall I still feel that it deserves a 5 from me, but I'd refrain from staying in just one progression over the course of your songs. Add a bridge or just something to pull the listener away from the progression.

WingoWinston responds:

Yeah I know I went fairly lazy on this piece in terms of its progression, I don't really compose video game music so I paid less attention to it, BUT, I find it incredibly fun to do. I have started on a new piece which will have more substance, but it probably will not be finished for a while.

Thanks for the review!

Playing with an awesome chord progression huh? :D

Yup, Sounds really good yo! You didn't move from the chord progression at all, but I guess you still keep things from getting too repetitive by the change in the main melody. Very easy to listen too, loops well, Great job on this piece!!!!

Daydream-Anatomy responds:

Yeah, the chord progression's pretty common though, but it's easy to do so much with it:]

Thanks^^

I am creative and love to draw, cartoon, write music, animate... I believe that with enough work Newgrounds will come to see that I have what it takes to be what I believe I can be. Thank You Newgrounds.
