First Chip-tune? Not bad!!!!

I love the effects you did in this using the swoop. It works well with the song, and makes for an amazing beat! Woop!

The ending probably could have been worked on a bit, as there is always room for improvement, but still I liked it, in fact I thought it ended the song quite well. The use of panning on the end was quite brilliantly done! I personally enjoyed this. I wish you luck with the contest. I'm actually quite curious who the winners are going to be tommorrow.

Awesome Song! I think I'll just write a backstory for you! XP

So the song is about a humanoid who was made to dominate over man, and despite his master's intent, disobeyed orders, and fought for his own humanity. After destroying his master's laboratory and disposing himself of his master, he used his given powers for the greater good of mankind, and made a name for himself. His name is Sigma, and he will bring a new age to us!

OpenLight responds:

That story fits this song pretty well haha. I'm glad you liked this track!

90bpm? Were you originally making this a really fast tune?
Well, overall it is not that bad, but why 90bpm, I can see this sounding much better at 120bpm. Just saying. The overall tune seems to drag at this rate. I mean it is a good song, but it takes too long to get to the bridge, and 6 minutes seems a bit long to be listening to this one progression you are using. In fact I was having trouble listening to the entire song. However. The song is pretty awesome, especially those overlaying melodies. And even though the chord progression is quite overused, you did it some justice!

(I used to play with this progression as a duet with friends where they would play the chords and then I'd just play an overlaying melody. Too bad I can't actually think of the song that uses this progression, however I can tell you that Louis's son from Super Man Returns, was playing a melody that goes to this progression, near the end of the movie on the boat.)

TastyTeo responds:

Thanks for the review! I wanted it 90 so it would last longer because that was my main target. I originally made this at 90bmp for a school project that lasts some time... I wanted to give a slow growth to the song, Supermaaaaaaaaaan :D anyway thanks again

Ah man! I love it! You should progress more with this tune. I keep expecting more!

ThePal responds:

We'll see. I have alot of other projects on the worktable right now, but it could really fit in some great quality Trance, I agree. :)

We'll see.

I've been trying to get to your song to review it... but have not had much time. lol

Anyways, as said below, the song is quite repetitive. And I know what you are thinking about the VGM being repetitive by nature, as I once thought the same thing... but the more you get in depth with it the more you realize that is not the case... In fact in alot of ways, video game music follows the same pattern as most classical music. Have you ever taken the time to break apart the Super Mario Bros theme? (it has 3 patterns and a counter melody. And trust me you listen to that song, the one thing you don't think is "Repetitive")

Now, as far as the actual review goes... I do like the feel of this song, and so I feel that you get away from that melody overlay concept and followed the plot chart on this song, you might have something quite good that I know would rank high. At least in my books! XP
What I recommend you do is work on flow. You could flow from this melody into another melody, add some tension, and some climax... Let me just say! I would be simply amazed to hear something like that from you! Anyways, overall, 4/5. Good job!

LazyBucks responds:

Thanks for this really amazing review.

I'm gonna take everything you said on board and work on it all for my next song!
Thanks so much, its great when people take the time to write such nice and structured reviews! :D

@Andersson187 It just takes time, effort, and practice. You'll get there.

Now for the review. This is some catchy tunes. I especially love the overall upbeat happy tone of this piece. Really, my only critique is on the ending... You didn't quite close the song did you, I mean... in all honesty, from the way it ended... I was expecting more. I suppose if you worked more on that climax of yours you might have been able to give this a great coda. However, the song was very fast paced... and creating such would not have been easy... You must have had alot of trouble ending this song, so I guess due to the fact that you did give it a decent ending... kudos to you there... still, I would have worked on the ending more before submitting this for the contest.

Good luck to you on the contest sir!

I don't remember turning on my SNES! XP

This tune is really catchy, and I like the way you just flow into the next part of the song! Fantastic Transitions. My only complaint is the ending.... It didn't seem to give a sense of climax. For such a great song, that ending doesn't do it justice. Either way, great and catchy tune! Fantastic Work!

SuperBastard responds:

Thanks for the review! I appreciate the input, especially regarding the end. I suppose I'd been working on the track a little too long and couldn't really "hear" how I wanted it to go anymore, so I got frustrated and called it done.

Hearing it now though I feel like I should go back and really finish it. Thanks!

Not a bad start. However, there is tons of room for improvement. One thing I notice, is the entire concept of this song, is overlay after overlay on the same melody line, which is a very neat thing to do, in fact I like to do it sometimes too, and see it quite often in 8-bit tunes. What I recommend is adding a bit more flavor and variety to the piece. See everything is relatively playing at the same pace in here. Around 00:41, instead of that 2 beat progression, you could have upped the pace there... (There is your flavor for that progression). Once your progression hits its peak, what I recommend is a bridge of sorts, and refreshing the song by taking it a different route. For instance, choose a different progression to play on. Anyways, Overall, this is not a bad piece... However it feels unfinished, and definitely could use some polishing. Keep up the good work k!

omnicrown responds:

Thanks for the review. I'll take all that into consideration in future projects. this was my first attempt at 8-bit. :p

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

This song just explains how I feel on a sugar high!!!! XP
(lol, actually it sounds just like power up music to be honest!)

For a second there I thought you made a loop, and was gonna comment on that, but whoa... nope, you just had to have that fade out! lol. Fantastic Work!

Simply Amazing!
I love the flow of the tune. The music in general makes me think of a mix between final fantasy and pokemon! Fantastic work, I mean I am left with nothing else to say but WOW!

Genclops responds:

So glad you enjoyed it! I hope others share your enthusiasm. Honored to be compared to two of my favorite composers as well :)

I am creative and love to draw, cartoon, write music, animate... I believe that with enough work Newgrounds will come to see that I have what it takes to be what I believe I can be. Thank You Newgrounds.
